Fish harvesting
Fish cages
In order to cushion themselves from factors that are brought about by over fishing and lower fish yields resulting from sewerage and chemical waste being dumped into the lake, dunga fishing community in collaboration with dunga corporative society introduced the fish cage farming where a iron cages-well sealed with nets and fingerlings are lowered into the lake at a distance where easy feeding and harvesting can be done, airtight plastic containers are also attached on the corners to make the cage bouyant, due to the expensive locals incure in constructing the cages-scouts are chosen to feed and protect the cages from unauthorized harvesting or theft of the fish. When the young fish grow to the recommended size, then harvesting is done and it’s sold at a subsidised price for the fish mongers and the public. This makes sure that the fish grow in their natural setting and are not deprived from Planktons and other conducive habitats that makes them thrive to their fullness.
